What Our Umbrellas, Canes & Shoehorns Are Made Of

Every umbrella we sell is built from four parts that determine whether it lasts one season or ten: the canopy, the frame, the shaft, and the handle.

  • Canopy: 8-panel construction is standard across the category; our Pasotti automatics use 16-panel dome-cut canopies, which spread wind load across twice the seams of a standard canopy.
  • Frame: Ribs in fiberglass or carbon-fiberglass composite, chosen for inversion recovery — they flex and spring back in wind rather than bending permanently the way steel ribs do.
  • Shaft: Solid chestnut, malacca cane, or maple on full-size models — one continuous piece with no internal joint, except on compact umbrellas built intentionally telescopic for portability.
  • Handle: Hand-carved or hand-turned wood, natural horn, or silver- and gold-plated brass, depending on the model — never an unfinished, injection-molded resin.

Handle Styles We Carry

Across our umbrella, cane, and shoehorn collections, handles fall into a small number of real categories — not marketing labels:

  • Classic — a plain crook, derby, or knob shape in polished wood, silver, or gold-plated finish
  • Wooden Handle — the grip itself, not just the shaft, is genuinely wood-grained
  • Animal — the handle is sculpted into a recognizable animal head or figure
  • Jeweled & Crystal — Swarovski or cut crystal, set as a solid knob or as a pavé surface

Canopy & Pattern Styles

Canopy patterns fall into five main categories in the ladies’ collection — Floral, Animal print, Polka Dot, Striped, and Luxury solid — plus Black, Classic, and Striped for gentlemen’s models. The pattern sits on the same panel construction described above; it is a style choice, not a construction difference.

Inspected by Hand

Every incoming piece is checked for ferrule fit, stitch density, and handle finish before it is listed for sale.

Honest Material Claims

Gold and silver finishes are labeled as plated, not solid metal. Resin is called resin. Wood shaft and wood handle are never conflated.
