Brass

Cast brass handles — plain, gold-plated, or enameled — carry real weight and develop a warm patina over years of handling rather than looking worn out. The trade-off is heft: a fully brass handle is noticeably heavier than acetate or resin, which matters if the piece travels with you daily.

Acetate

A dense, polished plastic used in fine eyewear as much as umbrella handles — lighter than brass, available in richer colors and patterns, and resistant to the kind of cracking that lower-grade plastics suffer. It won't develop character with age the way brass does; it's meant to look consistent for its whole life.

Wood
